9. How long is a search engine optimisation campaign; what happens if I stop?
Well, this depends on your business. Once we have achieved top ten positions for your five keywords, you might find that your phone rings off the hook with new enquiries and you have to turn business away - what a great position to be in!
While we would never reccomend that you stop SEO completely (as this will mean that your position will start to slide backwards over time), because we don't use contracts, we can only advise you on what to do here.
However, most businesses would see this increased business as an opportunity to expand. Once they have expanded, they then need extra income to support the infrastructure, and the SEO cycle begins again. You could of course find that while a top 10 position boosts your business to new levels, you could still do with more traffic to your site, and that a top 3 position is needed to bring in an optimal level of enquiries for the size of your infrastructure.
In specific terms; we guarantee 3-6 months to get top 10 positions for your five keywords. What happens next is up to you; however because everyone else competing for those terms is likely to be doing SEO and building links to their sites, you will generally need to continue SEO (to much lesser extent) to maintain that position.
There are also a number of other ways to optimise your website itself - once people arrive there, you need to make sure that the site itself is doing it's job - more on this in the next section.
