were top 10 so what next.

10. Now we're listed in Google's top 10 sites, what next?

Well you have a few options here: Stay where you are, go for a top 3 position, or stop doing SEO. You can also look at ways to optimise your site further to improve your "conversion ratio".

If you stop doing SEO, nothing will happen immediately. However, over a few weeks your position will start to fall, and as it does this, you loose all momentum that your SEO campaign had. As your competitors continue with their own SEO campaigns, their sites will overtake yours.

To go for a top 3 position will mean taking on the big guys, but has even bigger rewards than a top 10 position with as much as 50% of the traffic for the average keyword is going to the top 3 sites - once sites are here they are generally perceived as market leaders, and get sufficient foothold to establish themselves further.

To stay where you are will still require a small number of links to be built - this is because your competitors will also be doing their own SEO, and if you do nothing, they will eventually overtake you - like many things; it's easier to stay ahead than it is to overtake again!

Once you have plenty of traffic going to your site, you can focus on improving your conversion ratio - using Google Analytics to track visits to your site, and seeing where most of your site visitors stop looking or leave your site. By putting a "contact us", "buy now", "get a quote" or similar call-to-action button on the site at this point, you may be able to increase the business from the site, without increasing your Google position.
