background: As interest in genealogy continues to flourish, especially with TV shows such as who do you think you are?from the BBC, this is clearly a growth market and with more people looking for information, there was a gap in the market for a consolidated database of contacts and sources.
challenge: Design and create a solution with an intuitive interface allowing content to be easily searched and sorted and display the results in a meaningful and engaging manner.
solution: Create a streamlined process which guided users of all abilities through the various stages associated with the competition. Providing full error checking of details and ensuring confirmation emails were sent out upon completion of registrations / users entering the competition. This was done by:
• Minimising number of clicks required to complete searches
• Cross link as much data as possible
• Optimise database structure for speed and indexing
• Easy to use interface to suit users of all abilities and ages
