Weather facts interactive game for the Met Office

background: The Met Office came to us through the COI to provide support to their interactive stand at Hampton Court Palace Flower Show to quiz visitors on whether various weather statements were fact or fiction.

challenge: Design and create an easy to use system that would be accessible by people of all ages for a stand within a central pod at the Flower Show.  Feedback was required alongside the answer to the question.  The design needed to be clean and crisp and operation intuitive.  In addition, when the game was not in use, screensavers were required to catch people’s attention and draw them to the stand.

solution: Montpellier Interactive created a bespoke system that ran on an touch panel display.  This way people of all ages and IT skills were able to interact with the system just by touching the screen.  We had a bank of questions from the Met Office which we selected at random to ensure there was no pattern.

• Added sound effects to some of the questions to keep interest levels high
• Instant feedback as to whether the user was correct or incorrect
• Additional weather facts to support whether the statement was fact or fiction
• Large buttons to ensure easy use
• Selection of screensavers to draw attention to the stand
• Ability to run from a laptop and support multiple instances of the software
• Easy for the client to install
